Questions on forensics?
Feel free to send an email or give a call on the capabilities of computer forensics.  It is good to know what computer forensics can do for you, but it is sometimes better to know what it cannot do.

It'll Never Happen to Me

Our consultants have been engaged in a forensic litigation support where an employee had left his employ over a year earlier and sued for wrongful termination.  The former employer had reissued the employee's laptop and desktop.

There were no supporting documents (printed) available to support the employer and any information that may have existed on the computers, nor was anything available on the desktop as it had been reformatted, reinstalled, and overwritten. This was an expensive lesson for the employer, but one that won't be made again!

Employee Issues

 The ‘insider’ risk of harm to corporations is far greater than risks from outside the corporation.  Electronic Discovery and Computer Forensics can be employed in numerous circumstances revolving around internal employee matters.  Some of these internal matters include;

  • Employee theft and embezzlement
  • Intellectual Property (IP) theft
  • Corporate espionage
  • Corporate sabotage
  • Misappropriation of assets
  • Financial fraud
  • Money laundering
  • Conflicts of interests
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Email Harassment
  • Computer/Internet Misuse
  • Hostile Work Environment
  • Evidence in Support of Termination

Any of these issues can cause not only frustration for management, but also loss of revenue.  All business owners understand that even a small incident can bring a corporation to the brink of bankruptcy should it be allowed to continue unchecked.  We understand your needs for confidentiality and maintain that trust to protect your business.

Computer forensics can be employed on any electronic data systems, such as computers, servers, PDAs, and other media for searches and analysis of any problems.  e3 provides an “Integrity Check” service of any employee that you feel may be committing any policy violation.

An Integrity Check generally involves a covert acquisition and analysis of electronic media, without alerting the employee.  Keyword searches and analysis can be conducted offsite to ensure that corporate IP is not being compromised, as well as ensuring there is no other activity that can create a risk to the corporation.  This integrity check can also be conducted on any employee that is being considered for termination.  Evidence may be uncovered during an analysis of employee computer use that can bolster an imminent termination, lowering the risk of a wrongful termination lawsuit.  This can also disprove any suspicions as well.
