• Today, Progress Rail Services announced plans to establish a locomotive manufacturing facility in Sete Lagoas, Brazil, to serve the South American diesel-electric locomotive market. The company will operate the facility through its subsidiary, MGE Equipamentos e Servicos Ferroviarios Ltda. Progress Rail plans to make a “significant investment” to open and modernize an existing plant in Sete Lagoas, which will assemble and manufacture Electro-Motive Diesel-branded locomotives.• Bombardier Transportation has won a contract for 41 million dollars from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the supply of 14 cars on two levels for the Central Florida commuter-rail project SunRail. Under the agreement, FDOT can order up to 46 additional vehicles. Delivery is scheduled between May and August 2013. The order brings the total number of Bombardier customers in North America bi-level car to 14, with nearly 1,000 cars in operation throughout the United States and Canada. • GE Transportation reported $ 1.2 billion in second quarter sales, up 74 percent over the same period a year earlier.Segment profit amounted to $ 178 million, almost seven times higher than the second quarter 2010 profits, GE officials said in a statement. The company received $ 1.4 billion in orders during the quarter, up 19 percent, driven by orders for locomotives, mining equipment, parts and services, according to GE. • JB Hunt Transport Services Inc. recently announced the following changes direction: Paul Berg, president of intermodal and chief marketing officer, and Bob Ralston, executive vice president of maintenance, property and equipment, will retire on 31 December.Don Cope, senior vice president, controller and chief accounting officer, will retire Oct. 31. They will be replaced by Terry Matthews as president of intermodal; Shelley Simpson, Marketing Director, Gary Anderson, executive vice president of maintenance, property and equipment, and John Kuhlow, vice president-controller.

Progress Rail Services says it plans to locate a locomotive manufacturing facility in Sete Lagoas, Brazil, to serve the South American diesel-electric locomotive market.
Progress Rail said the facility, which will help the company to better serve its Brazilian and South American customers, will be operated through its subsidiary, MGE Equipamentos e Servicos Ferroviarios Ltda. (MGE). Progress Rail anticipates this project could create up to 600 jobs when at full capacity.
The company plans to make a significant investment to open and modernize the existing manufacturing plant in Sete Lagoas, in the state of Minas Gerais. The facility will assemble and manufacture Electro-Motive Diesel -branded locomotives in the 12,000-square meter space. Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. is a subsidiary of Progress Rail Services, and a worldwide leader in locomotive technology with approximately 33,000 diesel-electric locomotives in operation globally.
