HMG files suit against MSHA, Blue Ridge

The two sides are expected to go to mediation. In mid-May Chancery Judge E.G. Moody appointed Kingsport attorney Bill Wray as mediator to work with both sides in hopes of coming to an agreement and avoiding a trial. In the meantime, HMG’s lawyers asked Knoxville attorney Robert Bowman to analyze the evidence in the case to determine if Mountain States could be held liable to HMG.

Palmiero-Winters became the first female amputee to complete the 135-mile Death Valley to Mount Whitney race from the lowest point in the continental U.S. to the highest. She finished the task in 41 hours, 26 minutes and 42 seconds. The temperature in her prosthesis reached 160 degrees. Amy Palmiero-Winters lives on Long Island with her two children. She has been the overall winner of a 24-hour run and competed for the U.S. in a World 24-Hour Run Championship. She has received the Sullivan Award as the nations top amateur athlete. But now a cable from the U.S. Embassy in Kingston to the State Department has been released that suggests some visa applicants have disguised themselves as student athletes to immigrate illegally. We havent found a lot of fraud with Penn Relays, per se, David Stone, consul general in Kingston, told the Philadelphia Inquirer. But Stone added there are always desperate people who want to piggyback on the Relays to get to the United States. Thats an issue, and our officers (who interview visa applicants) are fully aware of it. The cable suggested a new screening process designed to combat the high fraud associated with this event, but still allow the bona fide student athletes to travel.
