Michelle Obama Lovin' McDonald's New Happy Meal Plan
Happy Meals have been the focus of a lot of turmoil lately, a new target in the war against the childhood obesity epidemic plaguing so much of the United States’ youth. It’s not just McDonald’s Happy Meals, either – pretty much every fast food joint has been feeling the pressure of the public eye, and each is finding a different way to respond. Recently San Diego-based fast food franchise Jack in the Box voluntarily removed toys from their kids’ meals. Now, McDonald’s is revamping its iconic Happy Meal selections to better meet health concerns.
A few years ago, McDonald’s started offering more choices – kids had the option between French fries or apple slices with caramel dipping sauce, and soda or 2% low-fat milk. But that doesn’t really make much of a difference for kids (and, let’s face it, some adults) who still choose to stick to the tried-and-true original fries ‘n Coke formula. In response to this, and in an effort to up the health factor of McDonald’s Happy Meals across the board, McDonald’s is now amending Happy Meals to offer the best of both worlds. From now on, every McDonald’s Happy Meal (starring your kid’s choice of burger, cheeseburger, or chicken nuggets) will contain apple slices and a smaller portion of French fries. Kids will also be able to choose from more drink options including fat-free chocolate milk and 1% low-fat white milk.

Hubby and I have been dieting all summer long and it is only a few more weeks before we are going to be eating regular, non-Nutrisystem foods.
