You're in good hands when you take a snorkeling trip with Carlos and Romeo. Going with Carlos is informative and fun, and the wildlife in the cayes is unmatched for snorkeling. Carlos is excellent with people, and tailors his attention and his itinerary to the group. If you need a lot of instruction and assurance, you'll get it. If you're experienced, he'll make sure you have enough freedom and water time to have memorable wildlife sightings and magical encounters. It's clear he loves where he lives and what he does every day, and his regard for the ecosystem of the reef is a wonderful model. He has extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna that he is only too happy to share. ”

I wasn't going to stay here initially (due to the bad reviews about Tina's) but I didn't have much of a choice since I was on a real budget and wanted to be near the beach! Oh wow, what do you know? It turned out Tina's is now under a new management (new owner from New York.... I think her name is Susanne?) and the hostel’s new name is Yuma's Place. Anyhow, the place has been completely revamped; security cameras installed, rooms re-painted and speaking with the rest of the guests, there are no more bed bugs!! Woohoooo!! I highly recommend this place!

Having heard about the horror stories of Tina’s Backpackers from my last trip to Caye Caulker, I was pleasantly surprised to see all the wonderful changes made by the new ownership. I had one the upstairs private rooms and found myself sleeping on fresh clean mattress and bedding in a neat, freshly painted room. The door to my room had a lock on it and I felt comfortable leaving my belongs there during the day and the nighttime security patrolling the property was a nice touch and seemed to give everyone there a sense of security. The place has truly gone from the worst hostel on the island to the best, set right on the beach, I found myself spending most of my time on the dock or relaxing in one of the many hammocks on the property. It is very easy to see that Susanne takes great pride in providing a clean and safe environment for her guests. The bed-bug horror stories of the past were laid to rest with the old owners. By far the best view and deal for the money on the island.
