Teen seriously hurt in Brighton seafront assault

A 19-year-old man was left with serious head injuries after a seafront assault.

The teen was punched in the face causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement on the Upper Esplanade in Brighton.

The victim was rushed to Royal Sussex County Hospital , in Brighton, before being transferred to the neurological unit at Hurstwood Park Hospital in Haywards Heath with a serious injury.

Detectives said the man does not remember anything about the attack outside the Old Ship Hotel at about 3.20am on Friday.

However officers said his facial injuries were consistent with an assault.

The victim had been drinking with friends in a Brighton nightclub before the attack.

Police said he remembers being in the club and then waking up in hospital.

They are now appealing for witnesses to the assault.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged 19 or 20, of slim build with long hair who was wearing a white long knitted jumper, jeans and trainers.

Ok, so let’s rewind a little bit to Good Friday 2011. You know, when it wasn’t raining all day, EVERY day. When brides weren’t checking the Met Office website to find out if their wedding is going to be a wet one.

On one of the hottest days recorded in Brighton was Jo and Keirons wedding. Lovely couple, honestly an absolute pleasure to be there.

Jo and Keiron were having a Humanist Ceremony in the Brighton Barcelo Old Ship Hotel. As usual I was there from the start covering prep from both sides all the way until the end.

The Brighton Barcelo is quite surprising once inside. It has a car park for starters, on the seafront, so quite unusual. Also it’s surprisingly easy to get lost in. It’s like the staircases of Hogwarts, I kid you not.

When you finally manage to find your way… (Ok, I’ll stop…it isn’t that bad). When you arrive at the ceremony room you are welcomed by a beautifully decorated, wonderully spacious room.

Behind the ceremony room is another, even bigger room which is utilised for the wedding breakfast. The doorway of which is situated dead center and is in line with the aisle.

Jo and Keirons ceremony was wonderful with a handfasting, some readings and a singer. The whole room was full of friends and family truly happy to be there.

After the ceremony we all went outside for photos. You know, the difficulty with Brighton at the weekend is that formals in the literal sense…don’t happen.

You can do them but then you have people in the background doing bunny ears, kids on bikes riding by etc, not good.

So, leaving things a little later we went out in the car and had some cracking results whilst on the road and stopped by the bandstand too. The Bandstand always seems relatively empty for photos as it isn’t on the main drag.

Then we had some other fun shots and went in for dinner. Where I stayed until the evening and took some lovely shots of the first dance.

Jo and Keiron are a lovely couple and it was great to be around them on their wedding day.
