Why I dropped Aliyu, Okoro - Obuh

The Nigerian trainer said the two players allowed themselves to be distracted by work permit issues for their bases in Europe.

The former Niger Tornadoes coach also revealed that during the pre-World Cup camp of the Flying Eagles in Nigeria Aliyu and Okoro still did not impress in training sessions.

Obuh added that a third player from the Under17 team, Ramon Azeez nearly missed the squad to the Fifa Under20 World Championship before he turned a new leaf.

However, the coach expressed disappointment that the duo decided to sacrifice representing Nigeria for individual interest.

"Two of the players from the U17 team, Stanley Okoro and Mohammed Aliyu, did not make it to Colombia. Their performance at the AYC was not very good. They fell below expectations.

"Ramon Azeez was also affected a bit but he picked up somehow and came back to a certain level. While we were training in Nigeria, I could not find anything reasonable with both Okoro and Aliyu.

"They were too distracted by their issue(work permit applications to Spain) and I warned them that if I leave Nigeria for Portugal and they failed to come along with the rest of the team, I will not include them in my final squad because they are not playing in any club.

"Ramon was a bit different though he too is not playing for any club. And when I looked at the whole scenario, I found out that he is being dragged (into the whole issue) and does not know what he wants.

"The others knew what they wanted and were ready to sacrifice Nigeria for their own interests," said Obuh.

The Flying Eagles handler also disclosed how Aliyu and Okoro dumped the team before their trip to South Korea for pre-World Cup tournament.

"When we were going to South Korea for an invitational tournament after the AYC, Okoro left us at the airport and insisted he wanted to conclude on his work permit application.

"He did not travel with us though we travelled with a very small squad. Aliyu did not join camp two weeks after we opened. He did not tell us his whereabouts. He does not have a club and that was why it was becoming very difficult for these boys to meet up," Obuh said.

Obuh's men will start their campaign in this year's Fifa Under20 World Cup in Colombia on Sunday against Guatemala at the at Estadio Centenario in Armenia.

Andre Villas-Boas admits Chelsea’s recruitment policy this summer needed to be focussed on youth because of the age of the present squad. The Portuguese coach, who took over from Italian Carlo Ancelotti last month, has already bought Thibault Courtois before loaning the Belgian goalkeeper to Atletico Madrid and agreed terms with another teenager, Barcelona midfielder Oriol Romeu.    The club have also been heavily linked with Birmingham defender Scott Dann and Anderlecht striking sensation Romelu Lukaku, who’re 24 and 18 respectively. Young on the heart of it: Josh McEachran and others his age are hoping to force their way into the Chelsea team ‘The market we have now moved in, and the players now we have shown interest in, they’re of a tender age,’ Villas-Boas said at the eve of Chelsea’s Asia Trophy final against Premier League rivals Aston Villa.    ‘You might see similar moves someday from us for the reason that squad is old, it’s one of several oldest inside the league.    Old boys club: The likes of Didier Drogba and Ashley Cole are almost the identical age because the manager ‘We respect them and we’re happy enoughwith the standard we need to be capable of challenge for the title. We can come to a decision soon and inform Daniel on his situation but i believe he has shown plenty of his qualities and he has shown enough capacity to be on this environment and this squad.’ There have also been encouraging signs in pre-season from the squad’s current young pretenders, namely Josh McEachran.
