Thirty-One Flavors in Thirty-One Days

Month in recognition of ice cream, appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1984, I go in search of the many flavors of this delicious cold treat. The path of discovery has challenged my personality predictable.

When it comes to ice cream, I always choose my all time favorite flavor, chocolate chip mint. For the purposes of research, I decided to branch out. I will try all the flavors that have looked interesting to me over the years, but I never had the courage of the sample. 

Because July has 31 days, I divided 31 ice cream flavors into four categories:

Chocolate and Vanilla, the Classic Flavors

I sampled vanilla, chocolate, swirl, cookie dough, “Everything but the…”, “Smores”, "Peanut Butter Chocolate”, “Chunky Monkey”, banana split, chocolate chip, mint chocolate chip, and “Chubby Hubby”. 

The one I enjoyed most was peanut butter chocolate.Like Reeses Cup classic "Peanut Butter, the two flavors go together. The combination of peanut butter and chocolate reminds me of my parents. As a couple who have been together 52 years, they dance in the same pattern while retaining their unique qualities.

When we were stationed in Germany, I discovered "Kokosnuss eis" or as we call it here, coconut ice cream. It immediately became one of my top five. The fragrance of coconut reminds me of the all too familiar suntan oil of days gone by, when we would bake ourselves on the back deck of our home.

The taste transports me to the village in Germany where I chatted with our neighbors in my non-fluent German.   This was the time when I experienced a new country, new friendships, and a new chapter in my life completely out of my comfort zone.  

A  Sophisticated Taste

This category includes flavors chosen by the more adventurous tasters, including Crème brulee, “Whirled Peace”, green tea, red velvet cake, coffee, sugar free butter pecan, rum raisin, and pistachio almond. 

I found green tea to be quite interesting. Since I enjoy sipping a warm cup of green tea late in the afternoon on a fall or winter day, I was excited to find the flavor in a frozen treat.

Well i grew up loving this chocolate its still my all time favorite..
