Anger at loss of lollipop lady
Parent and school governors Aberporth are "furious" that they lose their terms lollipop lady next door.
Ceredigion County Council Highways Department said that the school crossing criteria guidelines patrol is not reached - and when the current Lollipop Lady Evelyn Peggrem retirement in September, it will not be replaced.
Parents and governors are furious and say that the school - one of the biggest primaries in the county with 150 students - needs a crossing patrol.
"We are furious," said the chairman of governors of Gerry Evans.
"The school is on a busy main road which is also a bus line.Especially in the morning is chaos, "he said.
Mr Evans added that the school also has a special needs unit where children are placed in taxis and minibuses turning into the school gates.
The Board has already raised concerns with the General Council of the traffic congestion outside the school during peak morning and afternoon.
"As a Board, we will campaign on this issue," he said.
Aberporth Community Chairman, Cllr Helen Green, who is also a Govenor school, expressed his concerns.
"There may be criteria, but there are common sense," she said.
"If you have children, traffic and a busy road you need a school crossing patrol. What price the life of a child?"
"Their comments were supported by local AM Elin Jones.
"The safety of children on the way to school and should be a priority for the Council. A lollipop person ensures that security, and with more traffic on the roads, then there exists an even greater need to retain a lollipop person, "she said.
"There is no doubt that, given the busy road outside Aberporth school lollipop is a person really needs."
A spokesman for Ceredigion County Council said: "As pedestrians and vehicles has recently been undertaken outside the school by the Council as part of a review of the current situation. The criteria for appointment a new patrol has not been met and the Council regrets that the patrol retirement will not be replaced in September.
